Still under construction as I travel - photos and blog to follow. Thank you for your patience.
Travel and writing heals my soul. And, boy do I need it ...
Intro
Ten years after wandering through Central America and promising myself that one day I’d tackle the southern half of the continent properly, the moment has finally arrived. This time it’s 46 days across four countries, chasing some of the icons that have sat stubbornly on my bucket list for years, oh and the misty citadel of Machu Picchu high in the Andes, long lingering dinners and late-night tango in Buenos Aires, and the glorious chaos of Rio de Janeiro beneath Christ the Redeemer.
The route winds through the places I have dreamed and read about longingly — the Sacred Valley and Cusco before the train to Machu Picchu, the elegance and energy of Buenos Aires, and finally the beaches and mountains of Brazil. It’s a journey stitched together from rail rides, high-altitude wanderings, good wine, questionable Spanish, and the quiet thrill of finally standing in places that have lived in my imagination for a decade. South America has been waiting patiently.
Now it’s my turn.
I am not a luxurious traveller. I'm a thrifty girl travelling within her means; so you get to see the real life of the country - so do I, is my hope.
About Peru
This is the mandatory serious bit, so I don't look flakey.
After experiencing the Aztec and Mayan wonders of Central America, South America feels like the perfect next chapter. And I am starting my next adventure in Peru.
Stretching from the Pacific coast in the west, across the towering Andes, and deep into the Amazon rainforest in the east, it’s a country of dramatic contrasts. The Inca Empire left its mark everywhere from the highland citadel of Machu Picchu to the Sacred Valley and beyond. It certainly shows a different kind of ingenuity and spiritual depth than what I saw in Mexico and Guatemala. Peru is home to around 34 million people, with Lima, its bustling capital, as a vibrant mix of colonial architecture, modern life, and incredible cuisine. I’m drawn not just to the history, but to the landscapes, the culture, the food—everything that makes Peru a place where adventure, discovery, and awe collide.

About Bolivia
See, again, I'm about education and amusement.
After soaking up the wonders of Peru, Bolivia feels like the wild, high-altitude next chapter of the Andes.
From the shimmering salt flats of Salar de Uyuni to the towering peaks of the Cordillera Real, and deep into the jungles of the Amazon basin, Bolivia is a land of extremes. Its history is layered from the Tiwanaku civilization, one of South America’s earliest urban cultures, to Spanish colonial influence, all the way to the rich traditions of its indigenous peoples, particularly the Aymara and Quechua.
Home to around 12 million people, with La Paz as the administrative capital perched high in the mountains and Sucre as the constitutional capital, the country pulses with vibrant markets, colorful festivals, and a raw, untamed beauty that feels unlike anywhere else. I’m drawn to Bolivia for the same reasons I’ve chased history and landscapes before; its the sense of adventure, the living culture, and the sheer scale of its natural and human stories.

About Argentina
After the high Andes and wild landscapes of Bolivia, Argentina feels like the next chapter in a journey through South America’s diversity. Stretching from the windswept plains of Patagonia in the south to the tropical forests of Misiones in the north, with the Andes forming a dramatic spine along the west, it’s a country of incredible scale and contrast. Argentina’s history is equally rich, shaped by indigenous cultures, Spanish colonization, and waves of European immigration, all blending into a passionate national identity.
Home to around 46 million people, with Buenos Aires as a vibrant, cosmopolitan capital full of tango, cafés, and street art, the country also offers jaw-dropping natural wonders from the glaciers of Los Glaciares National Park to the thundering Iguazú Falls. I’m so in love with Argentina for its mix of culture, landscapes, and energy. It's a place where adventure, history, and modern life collide at every turn.

About Uruguay
After the intensity and scale of Argentina and with a forward look at Brazil, Uruguay feels like a gentle, unexpected contrast. A calmer, sun-soaked chapter along South America’s Atlantic coast. From the rolling plains of the interior to the golden beaches of Punta del Este, and the charming colonial streets of Colonia del Sacramento, the country offers a quiet elegance and easy rhythm of life. Its history is shaped by indigenous peoples, Spanish and Portuguese colonization, and waves of European immigration, giving Uruguay a subtle yet rich cultural fabric.
Home to around 3.5 million people, with Montevideo as a vibrant, coastal capital full of music, markets, and cafés, it’s a place to savor simple pleasures, enjoy the pace of the countryside, and feel connected to both history and nature. I’m drawn here for its charm, its openness, and the way it invites you to slow down while still offering discoveries at every turn. Unfortunately Montevideo wasn't part of this trip but I MUST return to this.

About Brazil
After exploring the mountains and plains of Argentina, Brazil opens a completely different world, gosh it's vibrant, vast, and alive. From the endless beaches of the northeast to the dense, mysterious Amazon in the north, and the rolling highlands of Minas Gerais to the waterfalls of Iguaçu, Brazil’s landscapes are endlessly diverse.
Its history blends indigenous heritage, Portuguese colonization, and African influences, creating a culture that’s exuberant, musical, and deeply expressive. With a population of over 215 million, and Brasília as the modernist capital while Rio de Janeiro pulses with iconic energy, Brazil invites you to experience everything from carnival streets to quiet rainforest trails. I’m drawn here for the scale, the color, the rhythm of life. This is absolutely a place where nature, culture, and adventure exist in constant, thrilling conversation.
